Now, About Your House <> Matt. 7:24-27

In the book of Matthew lies a story of two builders. Jesus Christ is preaching His most well known sermon…”Sermon on the mount” Now Christ spoke in parables to help us have a better understanding of His Holy Word. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Now, Jesus is just getting done talking to a large group of people from a hill near Capernaum.

In this particular passage, the parable is about two carpenters. One built his house on a rock; and the other on sand. And understand, Jesus spoke with authority. Kinda like the police officer who kept on stooping this man for running a stop sign. (TELL THE STORY) .

You obey or you wish you had.

(Now understand, it rains on the just and unjust. In other words, it rains on the child of God, and on the sinner. Now…as we physically grow from birth, we are building a house for our spirit to live in. And we choose how to build, and maintain that house. We choose to become a child of God, or not, we choose to fall away from God or stand firm. This is our Freewill. )

So, as Christ comes to an end of His sermon, He closes it out this way:

M’t:7:24: Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

M’t:7:25: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

M’t:7:26: And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

M’t:7:27: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

We as Children of God, have went through, are going through and WILL go through stormy times in our walk with the Lord. We have been tested, are being tested and will be tested. And these times will determine how you are constructing your house. (Tell the story of Job)…(Tell the story of Abraham).

Then we have the carpenter that builds their house on SAND. The floods came, the wind blew and beat upon the house: and it fell, and GREAT was the fall of it.

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to poor workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career. When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.” What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built so poorly.

  • Sometimes we just get away from God’s direction. We get into a backslidden condition. We want to do it our way, we want to go into a more leisurely life style. Satan has worked his way into our storm. If you don’t maintain your house, things like termites take over…Little by little they eat away the walls. One comes in, then two, then before you know it they have invaded your entire house.
